Whittling knife making course 4/5th July 2019
Over these two days you will have the opportunity to use traditional craft skills and more modern techniques to make a small strong knife suitable for whittling. In this instance you will be issued with a high carbon steel blade blank (already sharp, but not sharp enough by our standards!)
Day 1 – You will design and roughly shape a handle, make a bolster from brass or copper, do a touch of very basic blacksmithing and get everything 100% in alignment before assembly.
Day 2 – Final shaping and applying a quality protective finish suitable for that particular wood. After lunch we will do some proper sharpening, honing and stropping of the cutting edge ready for the paper slice test (or forearm shave?!)
Dress for the outdoors. Bring lunch and a mug for campfire coffee break.
A more detailed email will be sent to you on booking.
